This year’s Fotofest, a biennial fine-art photography exposition drawing internationally-renowned artists and experts, begins on March 11th with the Opening Night Party at Silver Street Studions and The Silos at Sawyer Yard. The events include portfolio reviews administered by top art professionals, a fine print auction, and featured exhibitions in the Houston area. “Changing Circumstances” is this year’s theme focusing on the earth’s natural aspects and humanity’s impact on an ever-changing world via examples such as climate change and industrialization.
Co-curator, Wendy Watriss states, “These are artists who have engaged the natural world and humanity’s place in the world, over many years. Many of the art works manifest the artists’ rigorous investigations into science and philosophy.” Featured exhibitions address the Anthropocene – climate change; industrialization and urbanization; bio-diversity; water; the use of natural and human resources; human migration; global capital; commerce and consumption; energy production; and waste.

Also note the show that will be at MECA, "Constructed" dedicated to the recently murdered environmental activist, Berta Ca'ceres, of Honduras. The show will feature the photos of ceramic bone installations of local artist Jo Zider. Each handmade bone is bent and represents a victim of abuse. In mass they address atrocities and genocides of people and lands.
