Join Paul Martineau, Curator of Photographs at the J. Paul Getty Museum, as he delves into the captivating journey of Rodney Smith, a distinguished New York-based fashion photographer. Martineau will unveil the intriguing narrative behind the creation of the latest publication, Rodney Smith: A Leap of Faith (2023), shedding light on both the remarkable life and illustrious career of this iconic artist.
A leading curator in the field of art photography, Paul Martineau is curator of photographs at the J. Paul Getty Museum. He received a B.A. in art from the University of Massachusetts at Boston and an M.A. in art history from Williams College. Before joining the Getty Museum in 2003, he held positions at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute. Mr. Martineau has organized numerous exhibitions at the Getty, covering a diverse range of topics spanning the birth of the medium to today. He is the author/coauthor of more than a dozen books and articles including, most recently, Imogen Cunningham: A Retrospective (2020), Icons of Style: A Century of Fashion Photography (2018), and Robert Mapplethorpe: The Photographs (2016).
