Tom Flaherty
I present pay phones. The first 9 of these are presented in a formal straight-on portrait style. I used a film like process which renders them a bit more abstract and contrasty, while better revealing their patina, different personalties, warts, blemishes, and scars. Many have a variety of body art in the form of stickers and graffiti, as well as freeloaders in the form of cans, cups, and various trash that finds a happy landing on some of their surfaces. A near full cycle of a pay phone’s life is covered here—from apparently functioning, to an empty shell.
